Other meaderings

Is it just me, or does anyone else not like The Decemberists?  I've listened to enough of their stuff, and I just don't like it.  I can see how people would, but not me.  They sound like Death Cab For Cutie, and I don't like Death Cab either (but I do love Postal Service; is that weird?).  Anyway.

I just listened to "Chunk of Change" by Passion Pit again.  Seriously.  Is anyone out there doing anything better than Passion Pit?  I can't think of anyone.  Battles may come close, but even they can't beat them.  Some of the best, most original music to come out in a while.  And to think, it all started as a love note to his girlfriend.  Awwwww....

Listen to Bon Iver.

I'm back BAY-BEE!!!

Hello all.  I feel an explaination is due.  It's been a long time since a post.  Well, the boredom tends to seep in and get to the bones to where you don't feel like doing anything because you're so bored.  Doesn't quite make sense, but it does to me.  Oh well.  It's just been a long summer and I need to get back into my happy rutt again.

So, how are you fine people out there in cyberspace?

I had to cancel my XM for the Summer due to financial constraints.  It's very sad.  I miss my XMU.  But I'm getting it back soon, so happy times will be here again.  But enough about me.  Here's some fun poppy-bleepy-bloopy-electronic-fun-time-music for you: Au Revoir Simone (http://www.aurevoirsimone.com/site.html).  They got their name from "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure", so they're already OK by me.  But this is good stuff.  Very quite and peaceful, but not boring.  It's pretty dang good.  And some of the stuff can get a little bit dark, which is also fine by me.  I'm not quite sure why they haven't gotten too much publicity (then again, maybe they have and I don't know.  I live in the middle of nowhere here folks!  Flying without a net!).  The music's good and the girls are good looking (don't call me chauvinistic here folks, we all know looks go almost as far, if not farther, than talent in the biz), so it's a mystery to me.  But check it out.  Good Times.

Peace, The Music Snob

45

I just went through my 45 collection for the first time in a while. I forgot that I have some pretty sweet stuff! Highlight: an old split with Centro-Matic and Tripping Daisy from Good Records. I sometimes forget how much music meant/means to me...  Here are some other highlights!  Oh, and these are all bands that you need to know and listen to:

An original Tripping Daisy/Centro-Matic split from Good Records...  very nice

Knife in the Water "Sunset Motel" and "2 Spades"

Old, very hard to find/get Mates of State.  Like before their first album old... very nice

Paper Chase/Centro-Matic split

Polyphonic Spree/Grandaddy split

South San Gabriel/Okkervil River split

Grandaddy's "Nature Anthem"...  classic G-Diddy

Zulu as Kono... perhaps one of the original, truly weird Austin bands

Mates of State covering Jackson Browne... maybe my favorite MOS song

Centro-Matic's "Forget the Sixth Step" EP

Sweet....  Plus some REALLY old Rancid and Green Day.  Don't really like those bands and I think that they're reprints, but still somewhat humorous...
